Strong Compression - Recent Service, Coils and Plugs 


Starting with the exterior, this RX-8, the final iteration of Mazda's rotary-engined sports car line, presents in overall good condition, with no major scuffs or scratches present on the metallic silver bodywork. While there is evidence of some paintwork to the bonnet and a small touch up to the boot lid, for the most part the car is in good condition as mentioned, and importantly there is no rust to the sills present. The headlights have been freshly restored and as can be seen in the photos, are very clear. 


Interior-wise the condition is similarly good, with the black leather interior presenting in great condition with no rips or tears to the seats. The dashboard, switches and door cars also present in good condition, the only issues to speak of are a patch to the carpet in the footwell near to the driver's left foot rest, and a small nick to the headlining above the rear seats. The heated seats and electric adjustment work as they should, as does the Bose sound system and 6CD changer. 


Mechanicals are very important on an RX-8, especially when it comes to the health of the engine, and this particular car benefits from having just had an oil change, replacement air filter, replacement Mazda Rev. C ignition coils and NGK spark plugs. It starts well hot or cold, and accelerates smoothly, while the six speed manual transmission changes with good feedback and doesn't crunch into fourth gear, a somewhat common issue on these cars. The rest of the drivetrain is in good order, and all four tyres have plenty of tread, with the rears being nearly new. There are no untoward noises when driving the car, and it handles well, with plenty of feedback. 


One of the key things with a rotary engine is the compression results, and this particular example was tested just before the MOT at 6.7/6.7/6.8 bar on the front rotor, and 7.1/6.9/6.9 bar on the rear rotor, with those readings having been normalised to 250rpm and compensated for test altitude.
